English Translation
Al-Hasan was asked about taking a midday nap in the mosque. He said: "I saw Uthman ibn Affan, who was the caliph at that time, taking his midday nap in the mosque. He would get up with the marks of pebbles on his side, and people would say: 'This is the Commander of the Faithful! This is the Commander of the Faithful!' — pointing with their fingers." He added: "We were young boys at that time." It was reported from Ibn Mas'ud, Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, and Sa'id ibn Jubayr that they disliked sleeping in the mosque. They preferred that whoever had a dwelling should not come to the mosque specifically to sleep in it.
