English Translation
Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) woke up one morning looking somber. Maymunah said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have noticed your appearance is unusual today.' He said: 'Jibril had promised to meet me last night but did not meet me. By Allah, he has never broken his promise.' She said: He remained like that all day, then it occurred to him that there was a puppy under a raised bed of ours. He ordered it removed, then took water and sprinkled it on the spot. When evening came, Jibril (peace be upon him) met him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'You had promised to meet me last night.' He said: 'Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image.' In the morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs from that day on, even ordering the killing of a dog guarding a small garden while sparing a dog guarding a large garden.
