أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرٍ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ نُجَيْدٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا ابْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ثنا مَالِكٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ ع��بْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ الْمَغْرِبَ فَلَمْ يَقْرَأْ فِيهَا فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قِيلَ لَهُ مَا قَرَأْتَ قَالَ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ الرُّكُوعُ وَالسُّجُودُ؟ قَالُوا حَسَنًا قَالَ فَلَا بَأْسَ إِذًا وَهَذَا عَلَى قَوْلِ الشَّافِعِيِّ فِي الْقَدِيمِ مَحْمُولٌ عَلَى الْقِرَاءَةِ الْوَاجِبَةِ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ وَلَمْ يُذْكَرْ أَنَّهُ سَجَدَ لِلسَّهْوِ وَلَمْ يُعِدِ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّمَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ بَيْنَ ظَهْرِي الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ وَهُوَ مَحْمُولٌ عِنْدَنَا عَلَى قِرَاءَةِ السُّورَةِ أَوْ عَلَى الْإِسْرَارِ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فِيمَا كَانَ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يَجْهَرَ بِهَا ثُمَّ قَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ أَعَادَهَا وَذَلِكَ يَرِدُ فِي بَابِ أَقَلِّ مَا يُجْزِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ تَعَالَى
English Translation
Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated that Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was leading the people in Maghrib prayer and did not recite in it. When he turned, it was said to him: 'You did not recite.' He said: 'How was the bowing and prostrating?' They said: 'Good.' He said: 'Then there is no problem.' This, according to al-Shafi'i in his earlier opinion, is understood to refer to the obligatory recitation. Al-Shafi'i said: It is not mentioned that he prostrated for forgetfulness, nor that he repeated the prayer. He did this in the presence of the Muhajirun and the Ansar. The Shaykh [al-Bayhaqi] said: In our view, this is understood to refer to reciting the surah [after al-Fatihah] or to reciting silently when one should have recited aloud. It has also been narrated that Umar repeated it, and that will be mentioned in the chapter on the minimum that suffices, if Allah the Exalted wills.
