Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi informed us, they said: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Saghani informed us, Ali ibn Ayyash al-Alhani informed us. And Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Dasah informed us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Mahmud ibn Khalid al-Dimashqi narrated to us, Ali ibn Ayyash narrated to us, Abu Ubaydah al-Walid ibn Kamil narrated to us from al-Muhallab ibn Hujr al-Bahrani from Duba'ah bint al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad from her father who said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) pray facing a post, pillar, or tree except that he placed it on his right or left eyebrow, never facing it directly. This is the wording of the Dimashqi's hadith. In the narration of al-Saghani, al-Walid ibn Kamil al-Bajali said: Al-Muhallab ibn Hujr al-Bahrani narrated to me, Duba'ah narrated to me — and he did not say ibn al-Aswad.
