أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَقِيهُ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو النَّضْرِ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أنبأ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ سِيرِينَ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ لِلْحَسَنِ ارْفَعْ قَمِيصَكَ عَنْ بَطْنِكَ حَتَّى أُقَبِّلَ حَيْثُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُقَبِّلُ فَرَفَعَ قَمِيصَهُ فَقَبَّلَ سُرَّتَهُ كَذَا قَالَ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ عُمَيْرُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ
English Translation
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari narrated a similar incident where the Prophet (peace be upon him) was at a well, sitting with his legs in the water and his knees uncovered. When Uthman asked to enter, the Prophet covered his knees and said: "Should I not be modest before a man before whom the angels are modest?"
