English Translation
And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi narrated to me, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim narrated to me, Abdullah ibn Marwan ibn Mu'awiyah al-Fazari narrated to me saying: I heard Shaddad ibn Abd al-Rahman, from the descendants of Shaddad ibn Aws, narrate to me, Ibrahim ibn Abi Ablah narrated to me who said: "I went with Ibn al-Daylami until we entered upon Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: Senna and sannut - in them there is a cure for every disease.' He said: It was said to Ibrahim: 'What is sannut?' He said: 'Have you not heard the saying of the poet: They are the ghee with sannut, there is no deceit in them, and they protect their neighbor from being humiliated.' Amr ibn Bakr ibn Tamim also narrated it from Ibrahim ibn Abi Ablah and added: 'except death.' Amr explained sannut in this hadith as honey. As for the obscure speech of the Arabs, it is the residue of a ghee container that comes out as black lines on the ghee." Then he mentioned the poetry and explained: "la als fihim" means "there is no deceit in them" and "an yataqarrada" means "their neighbor is not humiliated."
