English Translation
Abu Tahir al-Faqih informed us through chains > al-Layth > Yazid ibn Abi Habib > Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Jaz' al-Zubaydi said: 'A companion of mine died as a stranger, and we were at his grave — I, Abdullah ibn Umar, and Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As. My name was al-Asi, and Ibn Umar's name was al-Asi, and Ibn Amr's name was al-Asi. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to us: Go down and bury him, and you are the servants of Allah. So we went down, buried our brother, and came up from the grave with our names changed.' In this topic there are many reports, for he changed the name of al-Asi ibn al-Aswad to Muti', Asram to Zur'ah, Shihab to Hisham, Harb to Silm, and al-Mudtaji' to al-Munba'ith, among others that would be too lengthy to mention.
