English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Wahbi narrated to us from Muhammad ibn Ishaq. And Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us, Muhammad ibn Bakr informed us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Razi narrated to us, Isa narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us from Yazid ibn Abi Habib from Abu Ayyash from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered on the Day of Sacrifice two horned, salt-and-pepper colored, castrated rams. When he faced them (toward the qiblah), he said: "Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, upon the way of Ibrahim, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And with that I have been commanded, and I am of the Muslims. O Allah, from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad and his nation. In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest." Then he slaughtered (peace and blessings be upon him). This is the wording of Isa ibn Yunus' narration. In al-Wahbi's narration: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered two rams on the day of Eid. When he faced them, he said..." and he mentioned the supplication. Then he said: "O Allah, from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad and his nation." Then he named Allah and slaughtered. Ibrahim ibn Tahman narrated it from Muhammad ibn Ishaq and said in the hadith: "He faced them toward the qiblah when he slaughtered." It has been said from Muhammad ibn Ishaq from Yazid ibn Khalid ibn Abi Imran from Abu Ayyash from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It has also been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through a route that does not meet the standard of authenticity, that he sacrificed two rams and said regarding one of them, after mentioning Allah: "O Allah, on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad," and regarding the other: "O Allah, on behalf of Muhammad and the nation of Muhammad."
