وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ ثنا الْحَسَنُ ثنا يَحْيَى ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْعَبْسِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ حُدَيْرٍ قَالَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْشُرُ مُسْلِمًا وَلَا مُعَاهَدًا قَالَ قُلْتُ فَمَنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْشُرُونَ؟ قَالَ تُجَّارَ أَهْلِ الْحَرْبِ كَمَا يَعْشُرُونَنَا إِذَا أَتَيْنَاهُمْ
English Translation
Abu Sa'id informed us, Abu al-'Abbas narrated to us, al-Hasan narrated to us, Yahya narrated to us, Sufyan ibn Sa'id narrated to us from Khalid ibn 'Abdullah al-'Absi, from 'Abdullah ibn Ma'qil, from Ziyad ibn Hudayr, who said: "We did not collect tithes from any Muslim or any person under covenant." I said: "Then from whom did you collect tithes?" He said: "From the merchants of the enemy territory, just as they collect tithes from us when we go to them."
