أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْمِهْرَجَانِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمُزَكِّي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أنبأ ابْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ثنا مَالِكٌ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ عَلَى أِيِّ وَجْهٍ أَخَذَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ مِنَ النَّبَطِ الْعُشْرَ؟ فَقَالَ كَانَ ذَلِكَ يُؤْخَذُ مِنْهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَلْزَمَهُمْ ذَلِكَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ
English Translation
Abu Ahmad al-Mihrajani informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Ja'far al-Muzakki narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Malik narrated to us that he asked Ibn Shihab: On what basis did 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) collect a tenth from the Nabataeans? He said: That used to be collected from them in the pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah), and 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) kept it in force.
