أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ إِمْلَاءً أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ سَمِعَ بَجَالَةَ بْنَ عَبْدَةَ يَقُولُ كُنْتُ كَاتِبًا لِجَزْءِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمِّ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ فَأَتَاهُ كِتَابُ عُمَرَ ؓ اقْتُلُوا كُلَّ سَاحِرٍ وَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَ كُلِّ ذِي مَحْرَمٍ مِنَ الْمَجُوسِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ عُمَرُ ؓ أَخَذَ الْجِزْيَةَ مِنَ الْمَجُوسِ حَتَّى شَهِدَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَخَذَهَا مِنْ مَجُوسِ هَجَرَ
English Translation
Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Yusuf al-Asbahani informed us by dictation > Abu Sa'id ibn al-A'rabi > al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Za'farani > Sufyan ibn Uyaynah > Amr ibn Dinar, who heard Bajalah ibn Abdah say: I was a scribe for Jaz' ibn Mu'awiyah, the uncle of al-Ahnaf ibn Qays. A letter from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him: Kill every sorcerer, separate every close relative among the Zoroastrians [from marrying each other], and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had not taken the jizyah from the Zoroastrians until Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had taken it from the Zoroastrians of Hajar.
