English Translation
Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Muqri' informed us, from al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yusuf ibn Ya'qub, from Sulayman ibn Harb, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from Ayyub, from Muhammad — meaning Ibn Sirin — from Abu al-Ajfa' who said: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed the people and said: And another thing you say about those killed in your battles — so-and-so was killed as a martyr, and so-and-so died as a martyr — while perhaps he may have loaded both sides of his camel with gold or silver seeking worldly gain, or he said: trade. So do not say that, but say as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever is killed in the cause of Allah or dies, he is in Paradise.
