English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu al-Nadr al-Faqih, from Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Nasr al-Imam; and Abu Nasr ibn Qatadah al-Ansari, Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ja'far al-Attar al-Hiri, and Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Farisi informed us, from Abu Amr ibn Matar, from Ibrahim ibn Ali, both from Yahya ibn Yahya, who said: I recited before Malik ibn Anas, from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah, from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to visit Umm Haram bint Milhan and she would feed him. Umm Haram was the wife of Ubadah ibn al-Samit. One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) visited her, she fed him, then she sat delousing his head. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) fell asleep, then woke up laughing. She said: What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah? He said: People of my nation were shown to me, warriors in the cause of Allah, riding the middle of this sea like kings on their thrones — or like kings on their thrones, he was unsure which he said. She said: O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them. So he prayed for her. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) laid his head down and slept, then woke up laughing. She said: What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah? He said: People of my nation were shown to me, warriors in the cause of Allah, as he said the first time. She said: O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them. He said: You are among the first ones. So Umm Haram bint Milhan rode the sea in the time of Mu'awiyah, and she was thrown from her riding animal when she came out of the sea, and she perished.
