English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu al-Abbas al-Asamm, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Hakam, from Ibn Wahb, from al-Layth ibn Sa'd, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Abu al-Khayr, from Abu al-Khattab, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood at Tabuk and addressed the people while leaning his back against a palm tree, and said: Shall I not tell you about the best and worst of people? Among the best of people is a man who strives in the cause of Allah on horseback, or on the back of his camel, or on foot until death comes to him. And among the worst of people is a wicked man who reads the Book of Allah but pays no heed to anything in it.
