English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq, from Isma'il ibn Qutaybah, from Yahya ibn Yahya, from Abu Khaythamah, from Abu Ishaq who said: A man asked al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him): O Abu Umarah, did you flee on the day of Hunayn? He said: No, by Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not turn back. But the young and lightly-armed of his companions rushed out without armor or much weaponry, and met the archers of Hawazin and Banu Nasr, who shot at them with volleys that hardly missed. They retreated toward the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who was on his white mule, with Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib leading it. He dismounted, sought divine help, and said: I am the Prophet, no lie! I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib! Then he organized his forces.
