English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, from Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar, from Yunus ibn Bukayr, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Sadaqah ibn Yasar, from Ibn Jabir, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the expedition of Dhat al-Riqa' from Nakhl — and he mentioned the hadith. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stopped at a place and said: Who will guard us tonight? A man from the Emigrants and a man from the Ansar volunteered. They said: We will, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Station yourselves at the mouth of the pass. When they went out, the Ansari said to the Emigrant: Which part of the night would you prefer I cover for you — the first half or the last? He said: Cover the first half for me. The Emigrant lay down and slept, while the Ansari stood in prayer — and he mentioned the rest of the hadith.
