وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا نا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنا الرَّبِيعُ أنا الشَّافِعِيُّ أنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ أَرْسَلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ إِلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ كَانَ يَسْكُنُ دَارَنَا فَذَهَبْتُ مَعَهُ إِلَى عُمَرَ ؓ فَسَأَلَ عَنْ وِلَادٍ مِنْ وِلَادِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقَالَ أَمَّا الْفِرَاشُ فَلِفُلَانٍ وَأَمَّا النُّطْفَةُ فَلِفُلَانٍ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ صَدَقْتَ وَلَكِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَضَى بِالْفِرَاشِ
English Translation
Umar ibn al-Khattab sent for an old man from Banu Zuhrah to ask about a lineage claim from the pre-Islamic era. The man said: "The bed belongs to so-and-so and the seed to so-and-so." Umar said: "You have spoken the truth, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) judged by the bed" — meaning the child belongs to the husband.
