English Translation
Abu Zakariyya bin Abi Ishaq informed us... from Urwah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade drinking from the mouth of the waterskin and said: It makes it stink. This was narrated as mursal (disconnected). As for what was narrated regarding the permission for that, the hadiths of prohibition are more authentic in chain. Some scholars have interpreted it to mean if the waterskin was hung up so that ground-dwelling creatures could not enter it. We have mentioned this in the book of Ma'rifah and the book of al-Jami'.
