أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ثنا أَبُو حَيْوَةَ عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي غَيْلَانُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بِهَا فَمَنَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى يُعْطِيَهَا شَيْئًا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَيْسَ لِي شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَعْطِهَا دِرْعَكَ فَأَعْطَاهَا دِرْعَهُ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ بِهَا قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرٌ ثنا أَبُو حَيْوَةَ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ غَيْلَانَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مِثْلَهُ
English Translation
A Companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) narrated that when Ali married Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he intended to consummate the marriage. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prevented him until he gave her something. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have nothing.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him: 'Give her your armor.' So he gave her his armor and then consummated the marriage.
