English Translation
Ibn Abbas reported that some Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed by a tribe of Arabs who had a person bitten by a snake. They asked: 'Is there a healer among you, for we have someone bitten?' One of them went and recited over him for some sheep, and the man recovered. When he returned to his companions, they disliked that and said: 'You took payment for the Book of Allah!' When they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the man told him about it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called the man and asked him. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we passed by a tribe of Arabs who had a bitten person, and they asked if there was a healer among us. So I recited over him with Surah al-Fatihah and he recovered.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The most deserving thing for which you take payment is the Book of Allah, the Almighty.'
