وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شِيرَوَيْهِ ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَم��َدٍ ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ثنا شَدَّادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَبُو عَمَّارٍ وَيَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبَسَةَ السُّلَمِيُّ فَذَكَرَ دُخُولَهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ أُدْعَى نَبِيًّا فَقُلْتُ وَمَا نَبِيٌّ؟ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَقُلْتُ بِأِيِّ شَيْءٍ أَرْسَلَكَ؟ فَقَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي بِصِلَةِ الْأَرْحَامِ وَكَسْرِ الْأَوْثَانِ وَأَنْ يُوَحَّدَ لَا يُشْرَكَ بِهِ شَيْءٌ قُلْتُ لَهُ فَمَنْ مَعَكَ؟ قَالَ حُرٌّ وَعَبْدٌ قَالَ وَمَعَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَبِلَالٌ مِمَّنْ آمَنَ بِهِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ
English Translation
Amr ibn Abasah al-Sulami described his visit to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in Makkah, saying: "I said to him: 'What are you?' He said: 'I am called a prophet.' I said: 'What is a prophet?' He said: 'Allah the Blessed and Exalted has sent me.' I said: 'With what did He send you?' He said: 'He sent me to maintain ties of kinship, to break idols, and to worship Allah alone without associating anything with Him.' I said: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'A free man and a slave' — meaning Abu Bakr and Bilal, who had believed in him at that time."
