أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ دَرَسْتَوَيْهِ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنِي شُعَيْبٌ ح قَالَ وَثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي جَمِيعًا عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ السَّبَّاقِ أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ ؓ إِنَّكَ رَجُلٌ شَابٌّ عَاقِلٌ لَا نَتَّهِمُكَ وَكُنْتَ تَكْتُبُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَتَبَّعِ الْقُرْآنَ فَاجْمَعْهُ قَدْ مَضَتْ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةُ بِطُولِهَا فِي كِتَابِ الصَّلَاةِ وَفِيهَا فَضِيلَةٌ سَنِيَّةٌ لِزَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ؓ
English Translation
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qattan informed us: Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Darastawayh narrated to us: Ya'qub ibn Sufyan narrated to us: Abu al-Yaman informed us: Shu'ayb informed me, also Hajjaj ibn Abi Mani' said: My grandfather narrated to me, both from al-Zuhri who said: Ibn al-Sabbaq informed me that Zayd ibn Thabit al-Ansari said: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: You are a young, intelligent man whom we do not suspect, and you used to write the revelation for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), so trace the Quran and compile it. This story has been mentioned at length in the Book of Prayer, and it contains a great virtue for Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him).
