حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ أَنَّ أَبَا السَّائِبِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ صَلَّى صَلَاةً لَمْ يَقْرَأْ فِيهَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ هِيَ خِدَاجٌ هِيَ خِدَاجٌ غَيْرُ تَمَامٍ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ إِنِّي أَكُونُ أَحْيَانًا وَرَاءَ الْإِمَامِ قَالَ فَغَمَزَ ذِرَاعِي وَقَالَ يَا فَارِسِيُّ اقْرَأْ بِهَا فِي نَفْسِكَ.
English Translation
Isma'il told us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: al-'Ala' ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ya'qub informed me, that Abu al-Sa'ib informed him that he heard Abu Hurayrah say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever performs a prayer in which he does not recite the Mother of the Qur'an, it is deficient" - he said it three times - "incomplete." I said: "O Abu Hurayrah, sometimes I am behind the imam." He said, pinching my forearm: "O Persian, recite it within yourself."
