وَبِالْإِسْنَادِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ الْأُكْلَةُ وَالْأُكْلَتَانِ وَاللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ أَوْ التَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ شُعْبَةُ شَكَّ فِي اللُّقْمَةِ وَالتَّمْرَةِ وَلَكِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ الَّذِي لَيْسَ لَهُ غِنًى يُغْنِيهِ وَلَا يَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا أَوْ يَسْتَحِي أَنْ يَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا.
English Translation
With the same chain of narration, he said: "The truly poor person is not one who is turned away by a mouthful or two, or a morsel or two, or a date or two" - Shu'bah was uncertain whether it was 'morsel' or 'date' - "rather, the truly poor person is one who has no wealth to make him self-sufficient, and who does not ask people insistently, or is too shy to ask people insistently."
