English Translation
Yahya narrated to us, from Ibn Ajlan, who said: Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id narrated to us, from Abu Hurairah, that a man insulted Abu Bakr while the Prophet (peace be upon him) was sitting. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was amazed and smiling. When the man persisted, Abu Bakr responded to some of his words, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) became angry and stood up. Abu Bakr caught up with him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, he was insulting me while you were sitting, but when I responded to some of his words, you became angry and stood up." He said: "An angel was with you, responding on your behalf. But when you responded to some of his words, Shaytan came down, and I was not going to sit with Shaytan." Then he said: "O Abu Bakr, three things, all of which are true: No servant is wronged and overlooks it for the sake of Allah the Mighty and Sublime except that Allah strengthens his support thereby. No man opens a door of giving seeking thereby to maintain family ties except that Allah increases him in abundance. And no man opens a door of begging seeking thereby to increase his wealth except that Allah the Mighty and Sublime increases him in poverty."
