حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَتَّابٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ فُلَانٍ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا زُرْعَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ سَفَرًا فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ قَالَ وَأُرَاهُ قَالَ وَالْحَامِلُ عَلَى الظَّهْرِ اللَّهُمَّ اصْحَبْنَا بِنُصْحٍ وَاقْلِبْنَا بِذِمَّةٍ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ مِلْحِ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ.
English Translation
'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, 'Abdullah informed us, and 'Attab said: 'Abdullah narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah informed us, from so-and-so al-Khath'ami, that he heard Abu Zur'ah narrating from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace be upon him), when he went on a journey and mounted his riding animal, would say: "O Allah, You are the Companion during the journey and the Successor (Guardian) over the family" - and I think he said: "and the One who carries upon the mount. O Allah, accompany us with counsel and return us with protection. I seek refuge in You from the difficulty and hardship of travel and the sorrow of return."
