حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَيْرٍ يَعْنِي عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ أَشْعَرُ بَيْتٍ قَالَتْهُ الْعَرَبُ أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللَّهَ بَاطِلُ وَكَادَ أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ.
English Translation
Abu Hurayrah narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said upon the pulpit: "The truest verse spoken by the Arabs is: 'Indeed, everything other than Allah is false.' And Umayyah ibn Abi al-Salt was close to becoming Muslim."
