حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَقُصُّ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ { وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جَنَّتَانِ } فَقُلْتُ وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الثَّانِيَةَ { وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جَنَّتَانِ } فَقُلْتُ الثَّانِيَةَ وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الثَّالِثَةَ { وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جَنَّتَانِ } فَقُلْتُ الثَّالِثَةَ وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنْ رَغِمَ أَنْفُ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ.
English Translation
Abu al-Darda narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) reciting on the pulpit: 'And for him who feared standing before his Lord, there are two gardens' [55:46]. I said: "Even if he committed fornication and theft, O Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said a second time: 'And for him who feared standing before his Lord, there are two gardens.' I said a second time: "Even if he committed fornication and theft, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said a third time: 'And for him who feared standing before his Lord, there are two gardens.' I said a third time: "Even if he committed fornication and theft, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes, even if Abu al-Darda's nose is rubbed in dust."
