English Translation
Abu Hurayrah said: I was present when the delegation of Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He prohibited them from drinking from certain containers: al-hantam (green-glazed jars), al-dubba (gourds), al-muzaffat (pitch-lined vessels), and al-naqir (hollowed-out logs). A man from the group stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people have no other containers." I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as if he felt sympathy for the people. He said: "Drink what is pure to you, and when it becomes foul, leave it."
