حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ الْبَرَّاءُ حَدَّثَنِي صَدَقَةُ بْنُ طَيْسَلَةَ حَدَّثَنِي مَعْنُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ الْمَازِنِيُّ وَالْحَيُّ بَعْدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَعْشَى الْمَازِنِيُّ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ يَا مَالِكَ النَّاسِ وَدَيَّانَ الْعَرَبْ إِنِّي لَقِيتُ ذِرْبَةً مِنْ الذِّرَبْ غَدَوْتُ أَبْغِيهَا الطَّعَامَ فِي رَجَبْ فَخَلَّفَتْنِي بِنِزَاعٍ وَهَرَبْ أَخْلَفَتْ الْعَهْدَ وَلَطَّتْ بِالذَّنَبْ وَهُنَّ شَرُّ غَالِبٍ لِمَنْ غَلَبْ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ وَهُنَّ شَرُّ غَالِبٍ لِمَنْ غَلَبْ.
English Translation
Abdullah narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated, Abu Ma'shar al-Barra narrated, Sadaqah ibn Taysalah narrated, Ma'n ibn Tha'labah al-Mazini narrated - and the tribe was still alive - he said: al-A'sha al-Mazini narrated to me, he said: I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and recited poetry to him in which I mentioned wine. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was told about my wife, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah has forbidden me to do such a thing" - or "forbidden such a thing." So I left, and she came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and told him she was his wife. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I only said what I said because he came to me praising wine, and whoever praises something clings to it."
