حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ حَدَّثَنَا رَجُلٌ فِي بَيْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو يُحَدِّثُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ سَمَّعَ النَّاسَ بِعَمَلِهِ سَمَّعَ اللَّهُ بِهِ سَامِعَ خَلْقِهِ وَصَغَّرَهُ وَحَقَّرَهُ قَالَ فَذَرَفَتْ عَيْنَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated from Amr ibn Murrah: A man narrated to us in the house of Abu Ubaydah that he heard Abdullah ibn Amr narrating to Abdullah ibn Umar. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever publicizes his deeds to the people, Allah will make him heard by the listeners of His creation, and will belittle him and humiliate him." He said: The eyes of Abdullah ibn Umar then shed tears.
