English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated from Habib from Abu al-Abbas from Abdullah ibn Amr that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said - my father said: Rawh narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated, I heard Habib ibn Abi Thabit, I heard Abu al-Abbas the poet - and he was truthful - narrating from Abdullah ibn Amr who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "O Abdullah ibn Amr, you fast perpetually. If you fast perpetually and stand in prayer all night, your eyes will become sunken and your soul will become exhausted. He who fasts perpetually has not truly fasted. Fast three days of the month and it is the fasting of the entire time." I said: "I am able to do more." He said: "Then fast the fast of Dawud (David), for he used to fast one day and break his fast one day, and he would not flee when he met the enemy." Rawh said: "his soul will become weary."
