حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُوحٍ يَعْنِي قُرَادًا، أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ الْوَتْرِ، قَالَ فَقَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُوتِرَ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ ثَوِّبْ يَا ابْنَ النَّبَّاحِ أَوْ أَذِّنْ أَوْ أَقِمْ.
English Translation
It was narrated that a man from Banu Asad said: `Hadrat Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be well pleased with him) came out to us and they asked him about Witr. He said: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) commanded us to pray witr at this time. O Ibn An-Nabbah, give the adhan - or, say the iqamah.
