English Translation
Abdur-Razzaq and Ibn Bakr told us, with the same meaning, they said: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Nafi' informed me that Ibn Umar used to say: When the Muslims arrived in Madinah, they used to gather and wait for the time of prayer, without anyone calling out for it. One day they spoke about this, and some of them said: Take up a bell like the bell of the Christians. Others said: Rather, a horn like the horn of the Jews. Umar said: Why do you not send a man to call out for the prayer? So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Bilal, arise and call out for the prayer.
