حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ سَمِعْتُ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ كُهَيْلٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالشَّمْسُ عَلَى قُعَيْقِعَانَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ مَا أَعْمَارُكُمْ فِي أَعْمَارِ مَنْ مَضَى إِلَّا كَمَا بَقِيَ مِنْ النَّهَارِ فِيمَا مَضَى مِنْهُ.
English Translation
al-Fadl b. Dukayn told us, Sharik told us: I heard Salamah b. Kuhayl relate, from Mujahid, from Ibn Umar, who said: We were sitting with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the sun was over Qu'ayqi'an after the afternoon prayer, and he said: "Your lifespans in relation to the lifespans of those who have passed are only like what remains of the day compared to what has passed of it."
