English Translation
Yahya narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah - Nafi' informed me - from Ibn 'Umar, who said: The day of 'Ashura' was a day that the people of Jahiliyyah used to fast. When Ramadan was revealed, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about it. He said: 'It is one of the days of Allah Almighty; whoever wishes may fast it, and whoever wishes may leave it.' Rawh narrated to us: 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Akhnas informed us - Nafi' informed me, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, and he mentioned the like of it.
