حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَحَجَّاجٌ الْمَعْنَى قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ مِنْ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ الْأُمَوِيَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ وَرَأَى رَجُلًا يَعْبَثُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَا تَعْبَثْ فِي صَلَاتِكَ وَاصْنَعْ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَوَضَعَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَخِذَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى وَيَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُمْنَى وَقَالَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj narrated to us — the meaning being the same — they said: Shu'bah narrated to us: Muslim ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us — Hajjaj said: of Banu Umayyah — I heard Abd al-Rahman ibn Ali say — Hajjaj said: al-Umawi — I heard Ibn Umar, having seen a man fidgeting in his prayer, say: Ibn Umar said: Do not fidget in your prayer, and do as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to do. Muhammad said: Ibn Umar then placed his right thigh over his left, his left hand on his left knee, and placed his right hand on his right (knee), gesturing with his finger.
