حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ كَيْفَ يُصَلَّى بِاللَّيْلِ قَالَ لِيُصَلِّ أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ الصُّبْحَ فَلْيُوتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ.
English Translation
Sufyan narrated to us from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, who said: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, being asked, "How should the night prayer be performed?" He said: "Let each of you pray two rak'ahs at a time, and when he fears the approach of dawn, let him pray witr with one rak'ah."
