حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَ عُمَرَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ وَأَبِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ فَإِذَا حَلَفَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللَّهِ أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ قَالَ عُمَرُ فَمَا حَلَفْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ ذَاكِرًا وَلَا آثِرًا.
English Translation
Abd al-A'la told us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, heard Umar saying "By my father," so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed Allah forbids you to swear by your fathers; so if one of you swears, let him swear by Allah or remain silent." Umar said: I have not sworn by it since, neither intentionally mentioning it nor quoting another.
