حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ كَانَتْ تُكْرَى عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَا عَلَى الْأَرْبِعَاءِ وَشَيْءٍ مِنْ التِّبْنِ لَا أَدْرِي كَمْ هُوَ وَإِنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يُكْرِي أَرْضَهُ فِي عَهْدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعَهْدِ عُمَرَ وَعَهْدِ عُثْمَانَ وَصَدْرِ إِمَارَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي آخِرِهَا بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَافِعًا يُحَدِّثُ فِي ذَلِكَ بِنَهْيِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَاهُ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْمَزَارِعِ فَتَرَكَهَا ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَكَانَ لَا يُكْرِيهَا فَكَانَ إِذَا سُئِلَ يَقُولُ زَعَمَ ابْنُ خَدِيجٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْمَزَارِعِ.
English Translation
Isma'il told us, Ayyub informed us, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, who said: I know that land used to be leased in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for what grows on the water channels and some straw - I do not know how much that was. And Ibn Umar used to lease his land during the time of Abu Bakr, the time of Umar, the time of Uthman, and the early part of Mu'awiyah's rule, until near its end, when it reached him that Rafi' was relating a prohibition of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding that. So he went to him, and I was with him, and asked him. He said: "Yes, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the leasing of farmland." So Ibn Umar abandoned it and stopped leasing it out. Whenever he was asked about it, he would say: "Ibn Khadij claims that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the leasing of farmland."
