حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَتَكَلَّمُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَأَخَذَنِي مَا قَدُمَ وَمَا حَدُثَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحْدِثُ لِنَبِيِّهِ مَا شَاءَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَأَحْسَبُهُ قَدْ قَالَ مِمَّا شَاءَ وَإِنَّ مِمَّا أَحْدَثَ لِنَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لَا تَكَلَّمُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'ba told us, from Asim ibn Bahdala, from Abu Wa'il, narrating from Abdullah, who said: "We used to speak during the prayer. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and gave the greeting of peace to him, but he did not return it to me, and I was seized with anxiety, both old and new. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Allah brings about for His Prophet whatever He wills.'" Shu'ba said, "I think he also said, 'of whatever He wills,'" "and among what He brought about for His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that you should not speak during the prayer."
