English Translation
Arim ibn al-Fadl told us, Sa'id ibn Zayd told us, 'Ali ibn al-Hakam al-Bunani told us, from 'Uthman, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqamah and al-Aswad, from Ibn Mas'ud, who said: The two sons of Mulaykah came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "Our mother used to honor her husband and show tenderness to her children" — he said, and he mentioned hospitality to guests — "except that she used to bury [her daughters] alive in the Age of Ignorance." He said, "Your mother is in the Fire." So they turned away with distress visible on their faces. Then he ordered them called back, so they returned, and they came back with joy visible on their faces, hoping something new had happened. He said, "My mother is with your mother." A man from among the hypocrites said, "What good does this do his own mother at all, while we walk in his footsteps [expecting the same]?" A man from the Ansar — and I never saw a man ask more questions than him — said, "O Messenger of Allah, did your Lord make you a promise concerning her, or concerning them both?" He thought this was based on something he had heard, so he said, "I did not ask my Lord about it, nor did He give me hope of it. But I will stand at the Praiseworthy Station on the Day of Resurrection." The Ansari said, "And what is that Praiseworthy Station?" He said, "That is when you will be brought bare, barefoot, and uncircumcised [as you were created]. The first to be clothed will be Ibrahim, upon him be peace. He will say, 'Clothe my close friend.' Then two white garments will be brought and he will wear them. Then he will sit facing the Throne. Then my garment will be brought to me and I will wear it, and I will stand at His right in a station that no one else will stand in, which the first and the last generations will envy me for." He said, "And a river will be opened from al-Kawthar to the Basin." The hypocrites said, "But water never flows except over silt or gravel." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, [does it flow] over silt or gravel?" He said, "Its silt is musk and its gravel is pearls." The hypocrite said, "I have never heard the like of this day! Water rarely flows over silt or gravel without vegetation growing from it." The Ansari said, "O Messenger of Allah, does it have vegetation?" He said, "Yes, branches of gold." The hypocrite said, "I have never heard the like of this day, for a branch rarely grows without putting forth leaves and bearing fruit." The Ansari said, "O Messenger of Allah, does it have fruit?" He said, "Yes, gems of every color, and its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks a drink from it will never thirst again after it, and whoever is deprived of it will never be satisfied after it."
