English Translation
Ibn Abi Adi told us, from Sulayman, from Abu Uthman, from Ibn Mas'ud, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Let not the call of Bilal prevent any of you from your pre-dawn meal, for he only calls" — or he said "gives the call to prayer" — "so that the one among you who is standing may go back to rest, and to wake the one who is sleeping; it is not that he says it like this, but rather he says it like this," and Ibn Abi Adi, Abu Amr, joined his fingers and pointed them downward, then opened the space between his two forefingers — meaning the true dawn.
