حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ هُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ فَقَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ فِيَّ وَاللَّهِ كَانَ ذَلِكَ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ أَرْضٌ فَجَحَدَنِي فَقَدَّمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ قُلْتُ لَا فَقَالَ لِلْيَهُودِيِّ احْلِفْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَنْ يَحْلِفَ فَيَذْهَبَ مَالِي فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا } إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ.
English Translation
Abu Mu'awiyah told us: al-A'mash told us, from Shaqiq, from Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever swears a false oath in which he is sinful, in order to seize thereby the property of a Muslim man, will meet Allah, Mighty and Majestic, while He is angry with him." Al-Ash'ath said: "By Allah, that was about me. There was a piece of land between me and a Jewish man, and he denied my claim, so I brought him before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: 'Do you have evidence?' I said: 'No.' So he said to the Jew: 'Swear an oath.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, then he will swear and my property will be lost!' So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: 'Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price...' to the end of the verse."
