حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَا يَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَى أَنْ تَتَابَعُوا فِي الْكَذِبِ كَمَا يَتَتَابَعُ الْفَرَاشُ فِي النَّارِ كُلُّ الْكَذِبِ يُكْتَبُ عَلَى ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ رَجُلٌ كَذَبَ عَلَى امْرَأَتِهِ لِيُرْضِيَهَا أَوْ رَجُلٌ كَذَبَ فِي خَدِيعَةِ حَرْبٍ أَوْ رَجُلٌ كَذَبَ بَيْنَ امْرَأَيْنِ مُسْلِمَيْنِ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمَا.
English Translation
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Dawud ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Asma' bint Yazid, that she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) giving a sermon saying: "O people, what compels you to pursue lying as moths pursue fire? All lying is written against the son of Adam except in three matters: a man who lies to his wife to please her, a man who lies as a stratagem of war, or a man who lies between two Muslim men to reconcile them."
