حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَتْهَا أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ انْكِحْ أُخْتِي ابْنَةَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَزَعَمَتْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهَا أَوَتُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي خَيْرٍ أُخْتِي قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِي فَقُلْتُ فَوَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَنَتَحَدَّثُ أَنَّكَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَنْكِحَ دُرَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْنَةَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَايْمُ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِي إِنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَخِي مِنْ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَأَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَا سَلَمَةَ ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ.
English Translation
Ya'qub told us, the nephew of Ibn Shihab told us, from his uncle, who said: Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that Zaynab bint Abi Salamah informed him that Umm Habibah, wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, informed her that she said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, "O Messenger of Allah, marry my sister, the daughter of Abu Sufyan." She claimed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to her, "Would you like that?" She said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah; I am not the only one who has a claim on you, and I would love that the one who shares with me in a good thing be my sister." She said: So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "That is not lawful for me." So I said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we have indeed been saying that you wish to marry Durrah bint Abi Salamah." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The daughter of Umm Salamah?" She said, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "By Allah, even if she were not my stepdaughter under my guardianship, she would not be lawful for me; she is the daughter of my brother by fosterage - Thuwaybah nursed me and Abu Salamah. So do not offer me your daughters or your sisters."
