English Translation
Ibrahim b. Khalid told us: Rabah told us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from one of them, from a freedman of Asma', from Asma', that she said: The Muslims in need used to wrap themselves with this striped cloth, and it would only reach halfway down their shins or thereabouts. I heard the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) say, 'Whoever believes in God and the Last Day' — meaning the women — 'let her not raise her head until we raise our heads,' for fear that they might look at the private parts of the men because of the smallness of their waist-wrappers. Abd al-A'la told us, from Ma'mar, from Abd Allah b. Muslim b. Shihab, brother of al-Zuhri, from a freedman of Asma', from Asma' bint Abi Bakr, that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Whoever among you women believes in God and the Last Day,' and he mentioned the hadith.
