English Translation
'Affan told us: Jarir bin Hazim told us: Ya'la bin Hakim told me, from Suhayrah bint Jayfar - he heard it from her - she said: We performed Hajj, then we returned to Medina, and we entered upon Safiyyah bint Huyay, and we found with her some women from the people of Kufah. They said to her: "If you wish, ask and we will listen, and if you wish, we will ask and you listen." We said: "Ask." So they asked about matters concerning women and their husbands, and about menstruation, then they asked about nabidh in the clay jar. She said: "You people of Iraq have overdone this matter of nabidh in the clay jar. What is wrong with one of you cooking her dates, then mashing them, then straining them, then putting it in her waterskin and tying it up; then when it becomes good, she drinks it and gives her husband to drink?"
