English Translation
Yunus told us: Layth told us, from Yahya bin Sa'id, from Yazid - meaning Ibn Habib - from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Talhah bin Yazid bin Rukanah, that his maternal aunt, the sister of Mas'ud ibn al-'Ajma', told him that her father said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, concerning the Makhzumi woman who stole a velvet cloak: "We will ransom her for forty ounces (of silver)." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "That she be purified (through punishment) is better for her." So he ordered her hand to be cut off. She was from Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal, or from Banu 'Abd al-Asad.
