حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ابْنِ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يُصَابُ بِمُصِيبَةٍ فَيَقُولُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَاخْلُفْ عَلَيَّ بِخَيْرٍ مِنْهَا إِلَّا فُعِلَ بِهِ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا فَآجَرَنِي اللَّهُ فِي مُصِيبَتِي فَمَنْ يَخْلُفُ عَلَيَّ مَكَانَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَلَمَّا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا خَطَبَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
English Translation
Waki' told us: Isma'il b. Abd al-Malik told us, from Abd al-Aziz, son of the daughter of Umm Salamah, from Umm Salamah, that it reached her that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no Muslim struck by a calamity who says, 'Truly we belong to Allah, and truly to Him we shall return; O Allah, reward me in my calamity, and give me a successor better than it,' except that this is done for him." She said: So I said this, and Allah rewarded me in my calamity - but who will succeed in Abu Salamah's place for me? When her waiting period ended, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, proposed to her.
